A new start

I’m going to start using this blog to talk about the future. And by future, i mean sustainability.

But why is it the future?

Sustainability is a vast issue so i’m going to focus only on sustainable construction.

In the past decade, civilizations across the world started to feel the consequences of the uncontrolled usage of energy and resources. All new subjects rapidly emerged, like global warming, climate change and the appearance of new sicknesses. But they are not new, they have just been ignored for quite a long time, actually the global warming issue dates from more than a hundred years ago. And the fact that these issues are barely studied they are unpredictable, so the peoples started to feel endangered has their life quality became threatened.

The idea of sustainability dates back more than 30 years, to the new mandate adopted by IUCN in 1969. It was a key theme of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm in 1972. The concept was coined explicitly to suggest that it was possible to achieve economic growth and industrialization without environmental damage.

The Future of Sustainability - Re-thinking Environment and Development in the Twenty-first Century

With this in mind and the fact that people were starting to become more sensible, this new subject started to grow.

Sustainability studiers became aware that most of our ancient technologies, that became ignored since the industrial revolution, were in fact very effective, efficient and sustainable. And that if we joined today’s technologies with these ancient ones, we could reduce our environmental footprint.

The fact that our last 100 years were very tumultuous and, at the same time, innovative, led to the absence of what is most important: the place we live in - Earth. By focusing our minds again to the most valuable thing we have leads the humanity to rethink its way of living and start a new era.

The future is were our suns will live in, thus we must not destroy it. In fact we must leave it the way we got it.
